MOTHER LOVE BONE

MLB was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988 by ex-Green River members Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Bruce Fairweather, ex-Malfunkshun frontman Andrew Wood and ex-Ten Minute Warning and Skin Yard drummer Greg Gilmore. Initially the group was formed in 1987 out of covers outfit Lords of the Wasteland which featured Wood, Gossard, Ament and Malfunkshun drummer Regan Hagar. By early 1988 the band had added Fairweather, replaced Hagar with drummer GregGilmore and changed its name to Mother Love Bone. This new lineup quickly set about recording and playing area shows and by late 1988 had become one of Seattle's more promising bands. In early 1989 the band signed to PolyGram subsidiary Mercury Records. As part of its contract PolyGram also created the Stardog Records imprint exclusively for the band. In March of that year the group issued its debut EP, Shine, becoming the first of the new crop of Seattle bands to have a release on a major label. The record sold well and rapidly increased the hype surrounding the band. In late 1989 the group returned to the studio (this time in San Fr ancisco, California) to record its debut album, Apple. Despite some initial difficulties, the record was on-time for its projected March 1990 release. By this point interest in the band had hit a fever pitch and it seemed destined that the band were going to make it big. Only days before the release of Apple, however, frontman Andrew Wood, who had a long history with drug problems, overdosed on heroin. After spending a few days in the hospit al in a coma, Wood died, effectively bringing the group to an end. The album would see release later that year in July.

GREEN RIVER

Green River were arguably the first grunge(fukk! i hate this term...) band, forming around the same time as the rest of Seattle's first wave (the Melvins, Soundgarden, and Malfunkshun). In 1985, they became the first grunge(holy sh..t! i hate this word anyway...) band to release a record, kickstarting the Seattle music scene and later helping to establish the Sub Pop label. However, Green River are even more famous for the bands that sprang from their breakup: Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone, the latter of which also contained the roots of Pearl Jam. That lineage somewhat overshadows Green River's actual music, which helped lay out the blueprint for grunge but didn't necessarily rank among its most transcendent expressions. Green River specialized in a dirty, sludgy, gleefully ugly hybrid of punk, heavy metal, and bluesy hard rock, drawing from bands like the Stooges in addition to the hardcore punk outfits where many of the members first cut their teeth. Its appeal tends to depend upon the depth of the listener's interest in grunge, but regardless, the seeds of a revolution are certainly audible. Green River were formed in Seattle in 1984. In 1985 they started playing local clubs and they recorded two tracks for the compilation album Deep Six, the inaugural release on local indie C/Z Records. Later in 1985, Green River went to New York to record their debut EP, Come On Down, for the Homestead label. In the summer of 1986, the group recorded another EP, Dry as a Bone, in Seattle with producer Jack Endino; it was issued by Bruce Pavitt's fledgling Sub Pop label in July 1987. Green River subsequently began work on an eight-song mini-album for Sub Pop, which was released in early 1988 under the title Rehab Doll. By the time it appeared, though, intra-band tensions were tearing Green River apart. Not long after Rehab Doll appeared, Green River officially disbanded. Arm reunited with Turner to form the punkier Mudhoney, while Gossard, Ament, and Fairweather joined up with ex-Malfunkshun singer Andrew Wood in the glammier Mother Love Bone. Following Wood's death from a heroin overdose, Gossard and Ament moved on to found the hugely successful Pearl Jam with vocalist Eddie Vedder.

....GNAR KILL uproar....

Sitting here now, in the belly of the 21st Century, more than a decade after Nirvana "broke", it is possible to look back at certain signal events -- moments, shows and recordings that set the stage for the now-past future.
At the same time i've cut my neck to be compromised for many things i hate in this fukked up world that makes me dont feel concrete...i know i'm not supposed to be this way, but it's ok cuz i know what to do...:)
Listening to Pearl Jam alone in my room when i'm going down eventhough i listen to "thrashcore" and "sludge" alot.
i'm not kinda homophobic-narrow-minded-ass cuz love being minority with someone who has a different sexual oriented eventhough i'm an heterosexual.
i was born with plastic spoon in my mouth when Pete Townshend teached me how to rock my dreams.
